a helpful hint

we're storing alot of DVDs and books in the high kitchen cabinets, just in case. also on the top shelves of the closets.

obviously you can't take it ALL with you!

I have massive steel shelving where all the stuff we can't take with us (our 2 pairs of 1200s, DVDs, books, vinyl, sound gear, etc) are covered with trash bags. those shelves are stronger than our structure bearing walls, pretty much.

The computers, paper files, game consoles, clothing, and cats are coming with us.

eh, cross your fingers.

Don't mean to alarm you, there are worse places your new home could be, I wouldn't want to be on the riverside (Camp & Bordeaux is about 1km from the river) of uptown during a hurricane though.

i can just see the 17th St. canal coming over the wall right behind my apartment.

donavan--we live 2 blocks from your old place, down lake on Georgia Ct.

jared has every game he owns in boxes.

i figure 2 laundry baskets of clothes is enough.

we're heading out at 6am tomorrow.

good luck to everyone; I'll keep posting my updates

I pack pretty light on the clothes... enough for a few days... I can launder them somehow if it goes over that.

Jared: Man with the right priorities... I've most of my games already packed... I usually keep all my game discs in spindles now, so those are pretty easy to transport...

Like Casey said, good luck to everyone, and godspeed (which is really fast, believe you me.)

I'm anal about having the cases and manuals and all that garbage so it's a bit more of a task. I've spent too much money on games and CDs to just leave them here with the chance of getting ruined. I've got enough room in my car so it's all good.

haaaay ashley, if it's any consolation, the hubby and i aren't leaving either...we're on the corner of milan and loyola (right by napoleon) so we should keep in touch! I don't know how much good we'd do when the storm hits, but hey we can ride it out together (sort of) =)

Good luck everyone....we're stayin behind

its good that everone is preparing for the hurricane but its a little too early for everyone to start freaking out......this hurricane is still far from coming ashore and it still hasnt made the turn north so every hour that passes the hurricane is further west.....I really dont see New Orleans being hit like everyone is saying.....its still way too early to tell.....just like Katrina proved when she hit down here, 2 hours before making landfall she turned south and hit 20 miles south of where she was supposed to come ashore

Wow... logic definitely isn't your forte', is it? People in New Orleans have good reason to be worried, and I hope nobody listens to your ramblings.

Hopefully everyone on here will stay safe and have a place to come back to.

P.S. This hurricane is Katrina...

earlier i made a joke about people freaking out, but seriously, if you can leave new orleans, please do. i just looked at the satellite image of katrina, and she is a fucking monster. it has the potential of turning into a 5 (wind speed > 155 mph) I used to live in Tulsa, so I know about tornados, and the wind of a cat 5 hurricane would constitute a severe tornado. severe tornados destroy homes and kill people. so, katrina is basically a giant fucking tornado, and many lives are at stake, not to mention the flooding aftermath. i pray for new orleans.
